Saturday night, hours of indie pop filled the Roseland Theatre as the crowd gathered for Andrew McMahon’s Upside Down Flowers Tour.
Grizfolk opened the show with their folk-laced and incredibly catchy songs. While some show-goers may not have been too familiar with the band, by the end of the set many were singing along to the choruses.
From the second Flor took the stage, the crowd welcomed their (almost) hometown band, hailing from nearby Hood River, Oregon. Flor really put on an incredible set — vocals that rivaled their studio recordings, beautiful lighting that perfectly matched their aesthetic, and great energy.
Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness played a massive two-hour headlining set with steady energy and crowd interaction throughout. An intricate opening and stage set played off of the pool party theme, fans helped create an ocean scene over the crowd during “Blue Vacation”, and nothing can beat McMahon riding a giant blow-up flower over the crowd during the encore. McMahon, formerly of Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin, included a mix of songs from his previous projects, older albums, and the latest Upside Down Flowers. This was by far one of the best sets I have ever had the chance to be a part of and reminded me why I fell in love with live music. The crowd was so attentive and excited for the entire setlist and McMahon’s energy played right off of that. The passion from both the crowd and the performers filled the room to the brim.
