Since March 2020, the legendary Crystal Ballroom in downtown Portland had sat quiet – no bouncing floor, no lights reflecting off the central chandelier, and no concertgoers singing along to their favorite artists. But last week, on August 19, the space once again filled with fans eager for live music.
As Crystal Ballroom’s first full show since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Beartooth was the perfect headliner to bring back the energy all live music lovers had been waiting for. Following the June release of Beartooth’s latest album Below, the band is out on The Below Tour, slated for 31 stops around the US.
For many, like myself, this was their first live show in well over a year, and the night filled with heavy rock did not disappoint. The room was buzzing before the lights even dimmed, and the crowd brought an energy unlike any other once the music started.
Dragged Under, hailing from Seattle, WA, and Wage War, out of Ocala, FL, opened the show with two fantastic, high-energy sets.
As Beartooth took the stage, the audience roared with excitement. Within a few minutes, crowd surfers headed towards the front, and the headbanging began while lead vocalist Caleb Shomo bounced around on stage.
The setlist ranged from newer releases to older fan favorites, never wavering on the high energy and passionate performance that Beartooth’s live shows are known for even after over 15 songs.
