Chance Peña, a 23-year-old singer-songwriter, is steadily making waves in the booming community of indie and folk musicians. With just one listen, it's easy to see how this rising artist is sitting at over 7 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.
Peña appeared on The Voice in 2015, helping kickstart a songwriting career as he gained his foothold as a young player in the industry before taking the leap into music of his own. Earlier this year, he released his latest EP, Lovers to Strangers, which includes the current viral track "In My Room."
Peña recently wrapped up a 22-date North American tour opening for another viral sensation, David Kushner, with one of the last stops at Portland's Wonder Ballroom.

Fifteen minutes before the show began, Wonder Ballroom was filling in quickly. The sea of mostly younger fans clamored to the front, eagerly waiting for the music to fill the vaulted ceilings, many of them even mentioning that it was one of their first concerts. As the lights dimmed, Chance Peña took the stage alongside his accompanying guitarist, Wesley, and the room erupted into screams.
His set was short and sweet but hit all of the top tracks including "In My Room," "Sleep Deprivation," "War," and his latest single released just days earlier, "i am not who i was."
With dim lighting and just a couple of guitars, the set was incredibly intimate despite the sea of people. Peña, soft-spoken and gentle, talked a little between songs, but the artist truly shined as soon as each song began. His raw and honest lyrics about love and moving through your 20s captured the audience in a way that not all opening acts can.
With so many people singing along to every song, I have no doubt that Peña will be back in Portland with a sold-out show of his own very soon.
