Hailing from the small town of Casper, Wyoming, getbent. is on a mission to bring in a new evolution of emo-alternative music.
Formed in 2017, this post-emo rock group first celebrated the release of their debut independent EP titled Hang In There, Friend in 2019. Now, the band is back with their latest single, “S//R,” and an accompanying music video.
“S//R” is melodic yet full of driving rhythms and bold vocals. The track keeps a perfect balance between the song’s powerful lyrics while letting the anthemic instrumentals shine.
As vocalist David Johnson explains, ”The message within ’S//R’ is the constant battle of no longer being heard by the other due to your own mistakes,” referring to the experience of a toxic relationship. “One's own actions cause the consequences of one's fate,” he continues, and “S//R” embodies that “realization of the destruction of that relationship.”
“The title 'S//R' means nothing, which represents what is felt after the constant and repetitive destruction of said toxic relationship,” he says.
The video, directed by Calvin Martinez, reflects the emotional chaos of a toxic relationship as the scenes rapidly flip between different locations and flashing lights, throwing the viewer into a visual whirlwind as the lyrical story unfolds.
With this single, Johnson says getbent. really took the time to strategize a release campaign, which significantly boosted their initial engagement, creating valuable analytics and reach for an independent band. With the release of "S//R," the video was premiered by Substream Magazine, included in Loudwire's Weekly Wire Playlist, and highlighted by outlets such as Spinning Thoughts, Emo Social Club, and The Alt Club.
getbent. consists of David Johnson on vocals, Brennan Sykes and Chris Henderson on guitar, Kegan Wass on drums, and Justice Greer on bass.
“S//R” is available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music. Keep up with getbent. on their Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok for updates on future releases!
