This week’s concert brought a power lineup filled with electro-pop, rap, and an electrifying combination of the two. All hailing from Austin, Texas, Swells, Blackillac, and Missio took the Hawthorne stage for the Rad Drugz Tour Monday night.
Swells was up first, showcasing their impressive crowd control, energy, vocals, and instrumentals. Even as the first band of the night, the crowd was very involved and receptive to the catchy beats on stage. Plus, there was a trumpet and everyone loves a good trumpet.
As a rare goer of rap and hip hop sets, Blackillac made their entire performance feel like a big party, including a rap battle all about Portland much to the crowd’s enjoyment. The duo’s songs were very fun, upbeat, and passionate allowing everyone to get sucked in.
Beginning to end, Missio‘s energetic set blew the crowd away. From kicking things off with one of their newer songs “Temple Priest,” to fan favorites like “Bottom Of The Deep Blue Sea,” “Everybody Gets High,” and “Middle Fingers,” Missio’s passionate set had something for everyone. The duo’s second album, The Darker the Weather // The Better the Man, is out Friday.
