Singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin was welcomed to a nearly sold-out show at Portland's Crystal Ballroom on a warm October evening as he wrapped up his fall tour with a handful of dates left.
The crowd leaned younger but buzzed with excitement as the ballroom quickly filled wall to wall. Budding star Sara Kays opened the show with a fantastic set, finishing off with her hit "Remember That Night?"
As Alec took the stage, it was clear that this would be more than your standard singer-songwriter set. I've listened to his discography, but his live shows truly bring the songs to life with the full band in a way you don’t get on the record.
The set was much more energetic than I anticipated and the crowd was having so much fun from the first song to the last. He brought fans up from the crowd to take photos on stage and serenaded one girl as he played the piano and she glowed in the stage lights.
Between the seamless and simple lighting design to the backing choir courtesy of the crowd, the atmosphere was one I can imagine every artist dreams of.
